A Decatur homeowner fatally shot an armed burglary suspect during an attempted break-in Sunday evening on 22nd Avenue SW.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:36 p.m. when the female homeowner contacted emergency dispatch to report she’d shot a male intruder who was attempting to burglarize her residence. During the call, she described the suspect as a black male wearing a white shirt who was armed at the time of the confrontation.
Morgan County Coroner arrived at the scene and pronounced the suspect deceased. Multiple gunshot wounds were identified on the man’s body during the preliminary investigation. Local law enforcement officials have confirmed that the homeowner is fully cooperating with investigators as they work to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting.
