Following a shooting incident at a Woodlawn High School alumni event, Birmingham police have arrested four men who now face first-degree assault charges. The suspects, identified as Camron Hinton (22), Freddy Hurst III (22), D’Andre Watkins (27), and Stefon Todd (28), were taken into custody after an altercation that resulted in multiple shots fired and one person injured.
The incident unfolded shortly after 7 p.m. on July 12, 2025, in the school’s back parking lot, where the department’s Shot Spotter technology detected thirteen gunshots fired in two separate bursts. The exchange of gunfire between two groups resulted in significant damage to several parked vehicles and left a female bystander wounded. The victim was promptly transported to UAB Hospital for treatment.
Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett addressed the community’s concerns about gun violence following the arrests. “We’re urging anyone with additional information about this incident to come forward,” Pickett stated. “Community cooperation is crucial in our ongoing efforts to combat gun violence and ensure public safety.”
Law enforcement’s Special Enforcement Teams successfully apprehended the suspects during a felony traffic stop, during which they recovered multiple firearms. All four men are currently being held at Jefferson County Jail, each with a bond set at $30,000. The first-degree assault charges they face reflect the serious nature of the incident and its potential consequences.
The shooting has raised concerns about security at community events, particularly those held at educational facilities. While the alumni gathering was meant to be a celebration of school pride, it instead became a scene of violence that endangered dozens of attendees.
The Birmingham Police Department has increased patrols in the area and is working closely with school administrators to prevent similar incidents. Investigators continue to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the shooting, analyzing surveillance footage and witness statements.
The police department’s evidence collection team has documented extensive property damage at the scene, including bullet holes in vehicles and surrounding structures. Chief Pickett emphasized that the swift arrests demonstrate the department’s commitment to maintaining public safety and holding those responsible for gun violence accountable for their actions in the Birmingham community.
